Show Notes:

It’s that time of year again where we have students graduating from college who are interviewing for their first teaching position, educators who have been out of the field and ready to jump back in, and others looking for different opportunities than their current situation. With interview season upon us, I thought it would be the perfect time to refresh those interviewing skills so you make the best impression and land the job!

Even if you’re currently in the classroom and not looking to switch jobs, most of you still have observations you’re completing for your administrators. Don’t worry, this episode is for you as well! Whether you’re interviewing or conducting an observation, in today’s episode, I’m sharing my 10-point checklist that will help you think through how effective your lesson is going to be.

If you haven’t heard, more and more schools are asking interview candidates to do a model lesson during their interview. This means you’re designing and presenting a model lesson to the interview panel as you’d present it in a real classroom. While this task might feel intimidating, I have the steps and checklist you need to successfully show an effective lesson either for an interview or observation.

In this episode, I breakdown how to plan a lesson with 10 key items to keep in mind. These items range from standards, assessment, engagement, differentiation, and all the various skills you’d want to incorporate into your lesson.

And since I want you to be successful, I provide examples of amazing lessons I’ve seen other teachers present from each subject area to give you ideas and get your creative juices flowing. So whether you have an observation schedule or an interview coming up, these teacher interview tips are going to help you stand out and find success!

Inside this week's show, you'll learn:

  • A 10-point checklist on how to WOW your observation or interview
  • Examples of creative and effective lesson ideas that incorporate real world connection and skills
  • Subject-specific ideas you can use for an observation lesson or model lesson for an interview
  • How AI can help improve the quality of your lessons while streamlining how you run your classroom

I hope this information is helpful as you prepare for your first, second, or third year of teaching. Until next time, remember, just because you're a beginning elementary teacher, there's no need for you to struggle like one.
