Show Notes:

As a beginning teacher, it’s easy to get caught up in creating the perfect classroom or crafting flawless lessons. But what really matters is connecting with your students, developing a solid classroom management plan, and giving yourself the space to grow. When you’re just starting out, there’s so much to learn and never quite enough time. So, what can you do to help yourself feel more prepared and ready to tackle the back-to-school season?

Fellow classroom teacher, Emily Roberts, had the same question. After a friend recommended the R.E.A.D.Y. for School Academy, she saw an opportunity to access a clear blueprint for setting up her classroom and establishing the foundational procedures and routines that would set her school year up for success. She’s joining me today to share how the Academy shaped her preparation, helped her manage challenging student behaviors, and supported her in building strong student relationships.

One of the things I loved about talking with Emily was her foresight and self-awareness. She thought ahead and planned for challenges before they happened. She credits much of this to spending time in another teacher’s classroom, asking thoughtful questions, and soaking up as much knowledge as possible.

While taking the course, Emily began to find answers to all of her biggest questions—how to stay organized, where to place student resources and supplies, how to handle behavior issues, and much more. But more importantly, she gained the confidence that she could be successful and enjoy being in the classroom with her students. In fact, her growth was so noticeable that her colleagues and even her principal took note!

I’m so grateful for conversations like this one with Emily. She offers an honest, behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to be a member of the Academy. She shows how the course can truly help new teachers feel relaxed, confident, and ready to start the school year with a clear plan—and the joy that comes from truly enjoying your students and your role as their teacher.

Inside this week's show, you'll learn:

  • How the R.E.A.D.Y. for School Academy helped Emily feel calm and confident as she prepared for her first year of teaching.
  • The value of learning from and observing other teachers in the same grade—and how it can positively shape your first-year experience.
  • Emily’s powerful metaphor: how teaching during your first year feels like flying an airplane while still building it.
  • What Emily loved most about the Academy and how it set her up for success throughout the school year.
  • How the Academy's clear, step-by-step structure supports preparation, builds a strong foundation, and gives space to learn from mistakes.
