Show Notes:

Teachers, I’ll bet that many of you are spending part of your summer asking yourself questions like, how can I prepare for the school year? How can I be the most amazing teacher for my students? How can I make sure it’s a fabulous year for them?

If so, you my friend, are really doing the work. I want to take a moment to celebrate you and remind you that you’re probably not giving yourself enough credit. You're probably working extremely hard right now. Maybe you’re on social media every day trying to figure out what else you could be doing to make sure that it's a great year for you and for your students.

I promise that you’re going to be okay. Is it going to be challenging? Yes. It’s going to be a really tough first couple of months. However, I’m going to be here on this podcast to guide you through it.

It's totally normal to feel overwhelmed in the first few months of school, no matter what you do to prepare. It's a steep learning curve. I invite you to take a breath and to celebrate what you've done up to this point. Look at all that you've accomplished! Acknowledge the work that you've already done, and the work that you're continuing to do, to set yourself up for success.

One way that I can help you get prepared for the upcoming school year is to tell you about 10 must-have resources to set yourself up for success in your first year of teaching. Having these resources is going to help you reduce a lot of the stress and overwhelm you may feel at the beginning of the year.

Nobody talks about how much time and effort it takes to set up your first classroom! It’s a lot of work. If you can purchase resources like these, it really helps to cut down on the stress of having to create everything from scratch. For example, it took me over a year to create all of these resources that I’m sharing with you in the episode! The good news is that it’s done. Now you don’t have to do it all yourself.

The resources mentioned can be found in my TPT store and have been carefully selected and bundled together. It’s called The First Year Teacher Beginning of the Year Bundle for 2nd-5th grade. Each bundle is available in Farmhouse Chic, in Chalkboard Brights, and in my new theme Succulents

Teachers Pay Teachers traditionally has their back to school sale in the first week of August. I recommend that you start making decisions about what you really want and need so that when the sale comes around, you’ll be ready. You can check out the bundles by clicking on the images below.

I hope these resources are helpful for you! Remember that as you’re taking time to prepare your classroom, take a breath and take a moment to celebrate all the good that you’ve accomplished. Don’t forget to take time to relax for the remainder of the summer because once that back to school busy hits, it hits hard!

Inside this week's show, you'll learn:

  • Why you need a separate teacher planner and personal planner.
  • How you can be stress-free when it comes to organizing and tracking your student data.
  • Some information that you’ll want to prepare at the beginning of the year for substitute teachers.
  • How our physical space contributes to, or takes away from, our classroom management.
  • Ideas for how you can build positivity into your classroom all year long.
  • The empowerment that your students will feel when they realize they are in charge of different elements in your classroom.

I hope this information is helpful as you prepare for your first, second, or third year of teaching. Until next time, remember, just because you're a beginning elementary teacher, there's no need for you to struggle like one.
