Classroom Management Hack: End of Day Routine

Show Notes:

In episode 176, I shared a fantastic morning routine to help you get clear about how you might want your mornings to look inside your classroom. So this week, I decided that it would be helpful to talk about a fantastic end of the day routine as well.

The bookends of your day - how you start your day and how you end your day - can really make a big difference in terms of your overall stress and how your classroom runs.

If end-of-the-day in your classroom is chaotic, and you haven't quite figured out the best way to manage it in your classroom, you're going to love this hack.

First of all, the secret to a great end of the day routine is to give your students a time limit for accomplishing the things that you want them to accomplish before they can go home.

You could get started with ten minutes and then work your way down to five minutes. As your students get more comfortable with this routine, they’ll be able to do it faster.

Let your students know that you’re going to be watching for a star student who will get to line up first for home! You’ll need to let your class know exactly what they need to do to be your star student for the day.

For example, they may need to have their desks sanitized, their chairs stacked, or their pencils sharpened and ready for the next day.

Whichever steps you decide, be sure that you print all of these steps on the board so that your students know, and can be reminded of, what they need to accomplish before the time is up.

It’s such a simple way to teach your students how to prepare for home in a quick and streamlined way. Just be sure that you are clear about exactly what it is you need your students to do before you introduce this routine to your class!

Inside the R.E.A.D.Y. for School Academy, I teach you exactly how to think through and create all of the routines and procedures that you’re going to need inside your classroom. Plus, I teach you how to teach them to your students in the first few weeks of school so you can set yourself up for success from the start.

So when you check out my Dr. Lori's Dollar Store, you're going to see that I'm creating very simple templates for you to grab and go with for only a dollar each. Then you can implement these hacks quickly and easily inside your classroom (as soon as tomorrow!).

I would love to know what you think about these classroom management hack mini episodes. It would mean so much to me if you would take a screenshot of this episode and tag me on Instagram @beginningteachertalk because I’d love to know – have you tried this hack in your classroom? How did it work for you?

Finally, if you need help with streamlining your classroom management right away, you also might want to check out my Chaos to Confidence Classroom Management System because classroom management isn’t just about tips and tricks or the latest trend. Instead, it’s about learning from someone who’s been where you are and figured it out.

I tested all my methods on MYSELF in my own classroom first over 10 years – because I’m not about to recommend ANYTHING that I haven’t personally seen work with kids firsthand.

It's never too late to make the changes you need to in order to get your classroom running the way that you want it to, and I'll show you how inside Chaos to Confidence and give you the resources you’ll need to make it happen.
